The long-awaited, highly anticipated wines of Les Jardins de la Martiniere have arrived!
Les Jardins de la Martiniere
The former property of Xavier Caillard, the famed Anjou chenin and cabernet franc producer has been brought back to life by a Japanese transplant, Kaya Tsutsui with some help from natural wine legend, Hirotake Ooka. They are looking to continue Xavier's tradition of long elevage, though it's hard to come straight out with 15 year old wines, so they have released some younger beginning the long aging process on new wines. The property is stunning, with 3 hectares of vibrant vineyards around an ancient house with deep tuffeau caves. Very exciting new arrival that we've been patiently waiting for for over 5 years.
Arkane no Oka 2018
A delicate expression of cabernet franc, hailing from the 20 year old vines planted on a sloped, south-easterly facing parcel. After hand-destemming, the grapes were macerated for 4 weeks before being gravity fed into barrels for one year’s élevage. The wine was then moved to stainless steel tanks, maturing for a further year and marrying the elements of each unique barrel before bottling.
A multi-layered, elegant and unique portrayal of the region’s famed cépage.
About the 6-pack:
It’s always tricky to know what to do when we get such minuscule amounts of highly sought-after wines in stock. Most shops around the world mark these wines up to stupid high prices, but we don’t believe in being opportunistic just to make some extra bucks. And as much as we’d like to keep these and drink them ourselves, wine is for sharing.
So here’s what we’re going to do: We’ve created several mixed 6-packs. Each one includes the noted bottle of Les Jardins de la Martiniere at the correct price (cost x 1.5) + five bottles at an average price point. Doing it this way ensures that we sell our release at fair market price and that the lucky recipients aren’t just swooping in for the unicorns without supporting the shop in a more meaningful way.
