Winemakers notes: 

Free Your Mind embraces the very best of the weird ideas that flood the mind during harvest. Inspired by George Clinton and the Funkadelic, our present process goes something like this:

Let’s co-ferment red and white varieties and marry the varieties thoughtfully -the goal is to develop aromas beyond the sum of their parts. Skin-contact Riesling will play lead guitar and carbonic Carignan will be the rhythm section. 

The winemaking process evolves with every vintage:

Last vintage, we swiftly joined the two varieties together in the press after 12 hours of Riesling skin contact. This vintage, we fermented Riesling on skins for 7 days, with daily pump-overs of freshly pressed post-carbonic maceration Carignan. We affectionately liken this progression to the wedding, followed by the honeymoon.

  • Fermented with native yeast and bacteria

  • Aged on lees for 2.5 months in stainless steel

  • No sulfur added, produced without fining, filtration, addition or subtraction

Issamu Kamide and Andrew Lardy, two high school friends from Virginia seeking new directions in fermentation. Since our inception we’ve worked with amazing farmers and vineyards from all over California to make wines that everyone can wavelength with. We produce and bottle with our own hands and feet. Every bottle begins as a concept - a look, a feel, an occasion, a vibe - that range from low-intervention to high-innovation production methods in the cellar. Wonderwerk began as a long night on a disco dancefloor finally wound down and we didn’t want the party to end. Now, it’s flowed from there into the wines you see and drink today. Come along for the ride, bring your dancing shoes and an open mind, we promise we won’t disappoint.
